Zero Waste Tip 1 - Make a difference in Your Home!
Zero Waste Tip 1
I am a member of St. Joan of Arc and their environmental and social justice group, EcoSpirits. St. Joan’s has been working towards zero waste for years very successfully. They have challenged all of us to rethink how to reduce waste in our homes. Recently, I signed a plastics pledge to reduce plastic use. Wow, was this enlightening. It was tougher than I thought. I didn’t realize how much plastic is in our homes. We recommended start with 1 thing. Then, do 1 more thing.
Step 1
Eliminating the use of plastic water bottles is a simple step we can all take toward helping the planet. Support the planet with every sip and reduce your part in the plastic crisis by choosing reusable water bottles and glasses. Using plastic bottles, especially single use ones, is costly and bad for you and the planet. There are toxic chemicals in the plastic that are hormone-disrupting and can leach into the liquid.
Just use stainless steel or glass water bottles that can be used over and over. You don’t have to buy bottled water. Get a home water filter and you will save money and avoid the toxic chemicals. It improves your health and the health of the environment.
Approximately 8.8 million tons of unrecycled plastic ends up in our oceans each year—and that estimate focuses solely on coastal regions. We don’t know how long it takes for these plastics to completely degrade, but scientists postulate anywhere from 450 years to never.
Keeping plastic out of our landfills and oceans begins with individuals. The impact unrecycled plastics have on our environment is immeasurable. From harm to animals to simple disturbance of our natural landscapes, each trashed bit of plastic leaves its mark.
Here is a simple way to make your own flavored waters in your reusable containers for less than 10 cents. Not only do they taste great but they improves you immune system and mental focus!
You are not only avoiding buying another plastic bottle, but saving money and supporting your health!
Thanks for making a difference by using reusable bottles! Buy a stainless steel or glass water bottle for your friends and family. Educate them on this simple step.
